Nationally Renown Goalkeeping Coach Gives Great Advice to J4K Keepers!

During Last week’s Capital District Youth Soccer League Coaches’ Workshop, four aspiring goalkeepers from the J4K-Capital District New York Program were treated to a special event!

Nationally renown soccer coach, Deb Raber lead a demonstration training session on footwork and handling. Coach Raber is the MCLA Women’s Head Coach and a NSCAA National Staff Coach. These five goalkeepers were treated to some outstanding goalkeeping coaching points from Coach Raber.  In addition to the quality training these kids received during the session, Coach Raber also shared the following tips:

  • Never stop training on your footwork!
  • Communicate loud and clear, yell “Keeper, not Keep”!
  • Remember that it is 11 v 11 not 1 v 11. Delegate ownership to your teammates!

J4K Coach Prince Knight also learned some of these things from Coach Raber when he spent two days this past summer with her on her home turf of MCLA training for the NSCAA Level 3 Goalkeeping Diploma.

It was a great experience for hundreds of Capital Region soccer coaches.  The session was hopefully a bright spot in the early career of these young J4K Goalkeepers!!!! We all look forward to the next time Coach Raber is able to spend some time in our area and have some fun coaching goalkeepers!
